This has been a hugely productive year for EDEO! While personally,
I found it to be very challenging (in my dual roles as President
and Medical Director), there have been some important milestones
for EDEO. Thanks for all the hard work by Board Members,
and Kendle Ens, the new Liaison Officer.
The major fundraiser for EDEO this year, was our casino
(in June of 2003). (Unfortunately, many of our volunteers
were unable to make it at the last minute, so I’d
like to say a great big thanks to those that pulled double
shifts!) Casino funding has been responsible for a new computer
in the EDEO office, an LCD projector (see it in action June
12th), and speakers for the year.
The Fundraising Committee succeeded in “landing”
two substantial grants this year, one from Edmonton Continuing
Adult Learning Association (ECALA), and one from the Wildrose
Foundation. Both of these organizations granted us funding
to undertake major projects, which are now in the works.
The ECALA grant funds a series of psychoeducation groups
for people with eating disorders, and their families, parents
and spouses. The psychoeducation sessions have begun and
are Thursday evenings at the EDEO office. Call Kendle for
details. The Wildrose grant is for the production of a video,
and new Board Members are excited about contributing to
the process.
February brought the efforts of another hardworking committee
to the forefront. After a masked march over the High Level
Bridge to increase eating disorder awareness, we held a
news conference at the Upper Crust. City Councillor Jane
Batty was once again on hand to deliver the Mayor’s
Proclamation of Eating Disorder Awareness Month in Edmonton.
The Main Event gave “body positive products some exposure
in the Bernard Snell Lobby with an all size fashion show,
panel discussion, and keynote speaker Sabine Ryder.
The Annual General Meeting is on June 12, 2004 at the Druid.
It begins at noon, and will include a guest speaker, Rhonda
Zabrodski, and a light lunch. There will be a minimal charge
for the event, $5.00 for members and $10.00 for non-members.
The new board will be elected at the AGM, and the main issue
to be discussed is the changing of the bylaws. The proposed
changes are on the website, so please familiarize yourself
with them before the meeting. Please plan to attend, and
bring a guest!
