The 2006 Venus Awards

“Research indicates that exposure to images of thin, young, air-brushed female bodies is linked to depression, loss of self-esteem and the development of unhealthy eating habits in women and girls.” Quote from www.media-awareness.ca

“Promoting a healthy body image is the new dove advertising campaign. www.dove.ca

“The Venus de Willendorf is an artifact discovered in Austria in 1908. According to experts, when it was initially carved up to 24,000 years ago, this statue was a symbol of fertility. It represents the different ways we have regarded beauty throughout history.

“Today the Venus de Willendorf is seen as a reminder that beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.


Venus Awards acknowledge advertisements or
commercials that use images which:

  • Encourage positive body image
  • Celebrate diversity
  • Show women enjoying physical activity

Winners will be chosen from five categories; printed advertisements, music videos, television commercials, movies or other source (such as billboards or radio) There will be one overall winner selected.
